Relaxing from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
Nestled between Lake Constance and the ridge of the lake, the Kreuzlingen region is ideal for sporting activities, cultural discoveries and enjoyable experiences of all kinds - on and around Lake Constance.
To relax from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a walk in the Seeburgpark Kreuzlingen, for example, is a good idea. You can recharge your batteries by passing secluded places on the lakeshore, Seeburg Castle and an urban harbour complex. Important personalities such as Napoleon III or Count Zeppelin were already looking for recreation in the Kreuzlingen region. That is why numerous castles and villas are located in the lovely landscape of Lake Constance. Whether on a boat trip on Lake Constance or on a hike along the Planetenweg: when the view sweeps over the expanse of the lake and the hilly landscape in the background, body and soul relax.
Kreuzlingen is the ideal starting point for excursions, even across the border. The German neighbouring town of Constance with its medieval centre can be reached in a few steps from Kreuzlingen.
Highlights in Kreuzlingen
The Seeburgpark in Kreuzlingen is open to the public almost along its entire length. The harbour is the starting point for boat trips from Schaffhausen to Bregenz. The park is the largest and most beautiful on the whole lake. The park extends around the unique Seeburg ensemble with the proud castle (now a restaurant) and the mighty Kornschütte, where the Seemuseum is now housed. A large playground and the minigolf course with restaurant characterise the northwestern park entrance at the shipping harbour. In addition to an observation tower, the animal park with old domestic animal breeds, an educational medicinal herb garden and aviary are further highlights.
In Kreuzlingen, the Rosenegg Museum houses cultural-historical exhibitions of the region and regularly shows special exhibitions. The Kreuzlingen-Konstanz art border is unique. Instead of being separated by a fence, 22 sculptures by the artist Johannes Dörflinger mark the border. Twice the people of Constance destroyed the Kreuzlingen monastery because it had served enemies to besiege the city. After the reconstruction in 1653, what is today one of the most magnificent baroque churches in the Lake Constance area was built. The monastery buildings have housed the Pedagogical Matura School since 1850.
Leisure time in Kreuzlingen
Every year in August the "Seenachtsfest" takes place in an extraordinary ambience. The most beautiful nights at Lake Constance are celebrated with colourful fireworks, a fantastic entertainment programme and culinary highlights.
The Planetarium, the first in the Lake Constance region, was opened right next to the observatory, which has existed since 1976. The centrepiece of the 70-seat central planetarium is the Skymaster projector.
But cultural events and children's demonstrations are also on the programme. Lake Constance offers perfect conditions for water sports such as swimming, windsurfing, rowing, sailing or diving. Various outdoor swimming pools invite you to relax next to the lake. If you are afraid of water, there are also other sporting activities on Lake Constance. A large network of well-signposted cycle paths leads around the lake and makes the region a cycling and skating paradise.
