Embedded in an ancient cultural landscape
The municipality Münsterlingen consists of the two formerly independent local municipalities Landschlacht and Scherzingen. Within the framework of the Thurgau Municipal Organization on 1 January 1994, the Political Municipality was formed. Münsterlingen is thus a quite young municipality. The two village parts Landschlacht and Scherzingen, however, are embedded in an ancient cultural landscape.
In a historical landscape
Directly on Lake Constance, not far from Kreuzlingen, the settlement areas stretch up the gentle slope of the Seerücken. Münsterlingen received its name and coat of arms from the old monastery complex of Münsterlingen. Today its site is home to Spital Thurgau AG with the Thurgau Cantonal Hospital, the Psychiatric Clinic and the Kompass Foundation, which provides jobs for some of the 2,500 inhabitants.
The winery Rutishauser AG, which is well-known far beyond the region and celebrated its 111th anniversary in 1997, also provides jobs in the village. Following the "merger" of the two former local communities of Landschlacht and Scherzingen, municipal taxes were reduced from 75 to 51%.
Leisure and sports
The lake not only determines the view and the magnificent residential area. The recreational landscape and the gastronomy offer - from cosy to upscale - not only attracts the local population.
A large camping site and a buoy field with over 200 boat berths are located on the municipal territory. The numerous motor and sailing boats underline the water-oriented leisure quality, which can also be experienced in the seaside resort. Football and tennis courts, minigolf, direct access to the bicycle net around Lake Constance and the attractive hiking network through meadows and woods are ideal for those who prefer to relax on firm ground under their feet.
