An extensive, well-maintained network of hiking trails
The municipality of Herdwangen-Schönach lies 12 km from Lake Constance on the Upper Linzgau mountain range, 600 - 700 m above sea level. It is made up of charming rural villages.
An extensive, well-maintained network of hiking trails - including the Linzgauer Jakobsweg - invites you to hike through unspoilt landscapes. Many kilometres of the most beautiful tours, through woods and meadows, have been compiled for all guests on a hiking map. Brand new: the European watershed, which follows the watershed between the Rhine and the Danube. The traffic-calmed roads and cycle paths around Herdwangen-Schönach offer cyclists a variety of interesting tours.
A highlight - the "Tonpark
In the disused part of the clay pit near Kleinschönach, the Heinz-Sielmann-Foundation is creating a diverse theme park. A varied "barefoot path", a nature-oriented circular path, several ponds - one of which is directly accessible - and a vantage point invite you to linger.
Particularly worth seeing are the historic town hall in Herdwangen with its large wall painting, the St. Wendelins Chapel with its late medieval wall paintings on the Ramsberg as well as the various Lourdes grottos and churches.
It is also worth visiting the various village and customs festivals, such as the spring festival of the Oberndorf fire brigade in Waldsteig in May, the Eulogius festival in July, a historic horse-riding procession in Aftholderberg and the village hockey in Herdwangen and the traditional mountain festival in Aftholderberg in August.
Family-friendly holiday apartments, guesthouses, "holidays on the farm" and bathing fun at nearby Lake Constance or in the surrounding open-air and thermal baths make your holiday a real experience. Herdwangen-Schönach is the ideal starting point for excursions. 10 minutes by car to Lake Constance, 30 minutes to the Upper Danube Valley Nature Park, 60 minutes to Allgäu, Austria, Switzerland or the Black Forest.
