Experience the different epochs with different eyes!
While strolling through the late medieval old town of Meßkirch, you can feel the rich history of this small town in Baden at every turn. Especially the Barockkirche St. Martin and the castle Meßkirch with its three museums (Martin-Heidegger-Museum, Kreisgalerie, Oldtimermuseum), as well as the historical town hall numerous half-timbered houses coin the townscape. A particularly entertaining opportunity to get to know Meßkirch is offered by a guided tour, during which you will learn interesting and amusing things about the city from a tour guide.
Even those who prefer sports in their free time will get their money's worth in Meßkirch. Around the city, signposted cycle and hiking trails invite you to explore the area. The indoor swimming pool is not only an alternative in bad weather!
The numerous festivals and events in the city and its eight suburbs are due to the lively club life. Whether at the town festival, the Fasnet or numerous spring, summer and autumn festivals, the Meßkircher know how to celebrate!
The town of Meßkirch owes its nickname "Badischer Geniewinkel" to its important native sons, whom it has produced and shaped. Meßkirch's most famous son is the philosopher Martin Heidegger, who was born here. There are also a number of important artists, writers and thinkers.
Only a few kilometres outside, on the historic building site Campus Galli, the early Middle Ages can be experienced up close. Only with the means of the 9th century is an entire monastic town to be built here in several decades of construction time. The visitors have the opportunity to watch the craftsmen at work, to follow the development and, if they wish, even to help out themselves!
