A dream for nature lovers
Nature lovers, in particular, get their money's worth here. A special treasure is the "Heinz-Sielmann-Weiher" (Heinz-Sielmann Pond), which was created only a few years ago with funds from the foundation of the same name. In the meantime, it has developed into a unique biotope with rare flora and fauna. Not far from here, the nature trail invites you to find out about the diverse local flora. And a neighbouring pear garden with over 300 different pear varieties is also worth a visit.
A walk through the wild and romantic nature reserve Aachtobel with the pilgrimage church Maria im Stein, the origins of which date back to the 16th century, becomes a special nature experience. The crowning glory of such a tour is the ascent over the 141 steps of the round keep of the former Hohenbodman Castle. You will be rewarded with a fascinating view of the Salem Valley, Lake Constance and the Alpine chain. In the centre of Hohenbodman there is a lime tree which is said to be more than 1,000 years old and thus probably the oldest lime tree in Germany.
Places of interest in Owingen
In the late Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, you can admire the rosary altar by Martin Zürn, offspring of the famous sculptor family. The baroque Nikolauskapelle in the main town, the Markuskapelle in Taisersdorf, the late gothic chapel St. Georg in Hohenbodman and the village church St. Mauritius in Billafingen are also worth a visit.
Splendid half-timbered houses, which are under a preservation order, convey the history of the building. The "Happenmühle" on the outskirts of Hohenbodman, probably the oldest half-timbered building in the Lake Constance district, deserves special mention. A large part of these sights lines the Linzgauer Jakobsweg from Wald to Überlingen.
The village nature trail in the award-winning suburb of Billafingen documents the history of a typical Linzgaud village.
Golf enthusiasts will find one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world in the 18-hole course Lugenhof with its magnificent view of Lake Constance. Cyclists can take delightful tours to Überlingen or across side valleys through the Linzgau. And after an eventful day on holiday, a delicious meal with a good glass of wine is a must. Varied gastronomy spoils you gladly.
