Engen, Tengen, Blumenfeld are the most beautiful cities in the world ...", an old saying once said. Tengen in Hegau offers holidaymakers a varied mixture of nature, relaxation, pleasure and culture. The climatic health resort between the Black Forest, the Alps, Lake Constance and the Swabian Alb accommodates around 80,000 guests a year. They can stroll through the historic old town to the Mühlbach gorge, hike on the certified premium hiking trails "Wannenbergtour" and "Alter Postweg" or enjoy a Kneipp spa garden tour. Swimming, tennis, football, classified Nordic walking trails, cross-country ski trails and playgrounds round off the leisure activities on offer. We recommend the 5-star camping site with indoor pool, swimming lake, mini golf, games tent, BMX track and much more, which has been awarded one of the best in Germany.
Historic city complex
Originally, three independent villages had developed on the site. Probably the smallest urban complex in Germany, Tengen-Hinterburg had only 45 inhabitants until it became independent in 1876. Remained from the time of the small state are several witnesses of old art and culture. It is worth taking a close look to discover the fascinating details of this city and its districts.
The Roman manor near Büßlingen, whose foundation walls have been almost completely restored, is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. Ten excavated stone buildings can be visited. Based on the coin and pottery finds, the date of foundation seems to have been secured around 75/80 AD. The end of the manor can be dated to the year 263 A.D. with the help of the comprehensive coin treasure.
Castle of the Teutonic Order Blumenfeld
The small town of Blumenfeld lies on a former circulating mountain of the river Biber. The castle of the Teutonic Order is formative. The castle, built around 1300, was destroyed in 1499 and rebuilt as the seat of the Obervogt. Below the castle is a beautifully restored mill with a waterfall near the Hotel Bibermühle.
A highlight in Tengen's extensive programme of events is the annual Schätzele Market, with over 100,000 visitors the largest folk festival in the region and one of the most important in southern Baden. Every last weekend in October, the Simon and Judää market, which has been awarded since 1291, is celebrated as the Schätzele market. In addition to numerous market stalls, a large amusement park and a colourful festival tent programme, Tengen's trade and industry is also presented at a trade show. The next Schätzele market will take place from 26 to 29 October 2018.
Premium hiking trails
The two classified premium hiking trails "Wanennbergtour" and "Alter Postweg" lead hikers to interesting and varied hikes with various vantage points, seating and resting options. The wonderful view over the Hegau up to the Alpine chain rewards the hiker for his previous efforts.
