Be close to monkeys

Would you like to take a stroll through a 20-hectare forest with over 200 free-romping Barbary macaques? With specially prepared, free popcorn, the awakened animals can even be fed. Being so close to the animals is an impressive experience for both children and adults.

Feeding times

Trained staff on site will be happy to answer any questions you may have and several times a day there will be feeding sessions with detailed explanations. Would you like to be there? Inform yourself at the cash desk about the feeding times at Affenberg Salem.

The Barbary monkeys

The Barbary monkeys live the whole year over in the open air and feel very well at the monkey-mountain Salem since the climatic conditions are very similar on Lake Constance of the homeland of the monkeys. Since the Barbary monkeys are strongly endangered, the animals of the monkey mountain form a type of valuable reserve-continuance. By the nature-faithful attitude of the animals, it is possible to observe their natural behaviour. So the babies of the Barbary monkeys are born in May, which can be admired by all visitors. More information can be found at the feedings which take place almost every hour, where employees report about their protégés.

The storks

Directly beside the monkeys, lives a free-flying brood-colony White Storks. During the breeding season, visitors to the Affenberg have a direct insight into the nursery through a live video transmission. Feeding on the stork meadow offers the possibility to see the animals up close.

The pond

From the viewing platforms and from a footbridge you can observe the varied life at and in the pond. The young of the swans, grey geese, mallards, coots, great crested grebes and many others are raised here every year. At the pond, there is always something to see.

The fallow deer

Visitors to the fallow deer park are also among the animals. Here about twenty deer cows and young animals live together with the fallow deer "Emil". Small and big are allowed to watch the animals during the daily feeding at 16:15 o'clock from the closest proximity.

For the little guests, there is an additional attraction on site - the adventure playground. The adventure playground is within sight of the tavern so that parents can always keep an eye on their children, even over a cup of coffee. A climbing tower, a slide, a sandbox, swings and a balancing course ensure lots of fun and games.

But the Affenberg in Salem also provides for the well-being of the parents. In the cosy pub in the beer garden style, there is a wonderful ambience to linger for a while. The offer provides a rich selection of simple dishes, drinks, ice cream, coffee and cake.
