Travelling the world
The Erwin Hymer Museum is only 40 minutes' drive from Lake Constance in Bad Waldsee. The cultural and technical history museum of the non-profit Erwin Hymer Foundation invites families, fans of travel, caravanning and vintage cars to an interactive tour of discovery through the world of mobile travel.
The Erwin Hymer Museum
The Erwin Hymer Museum tells of the desire to travel and the longing for independence. The museum invites the whole family on a unique discovery tour through the cultural and technical history of mobile travel.
The over 6,000 m² exhibition is an interactive journey on the dream routes to the places of the longing of the world. The story can be experienced from the perspective of the travellers. What draws us out into the world? Where do we want to travel to? How has technological development influenced our travel? The visitors dive into the adventures of the pioneers of caravanning and travel on their traces through history to the future!
Make your way over the steep Alpine pass to Italy, over the Hippie Trail to India and the East to the Baltic Sea, on towards the Orient and the desert of North Africa to the vastness of North America. Discover the northern lights at the Arctic Circle, feel stormy winds at the Atlantic and experience the longings of their time.
Exhibition and programme
A cheerful parade of over 80 historic vehicles from all over the world accompanies visitors on their journey along the dream routes. The classic carriages, caravans, automobiles, campervans and motorhomes, some rare unique pieces, bizarre developments or typical representatives, huge to tiny, awaken memories, tell stories and invite you to admire and marvel.
In interactive "workshops", visitors learn how technological developments have changed mobile travel. They experience exciting aspects of development, design and production.
Children experience their very own journey along the dream routes and can let off steam at play stations and in playmobiles. Photo stations for souvenir photos are fun for the whole family. Send holiday greetings to friends all over the world.
Guided tours and holiday programme
Thematic guided tours take visitors on their personal and individual journey through the exhibition (max. 20 persons per tour). The museum's educational team offers special programmes and workshops for children and school classes. Advice and bookings can be made by telephone or on site.
During the school holidays, the exhibition offers an additional programme for the whole family every day. No registration is necessary. Just come by and join in!
The Museum Restaurant "Caravano" invites you on a culinary journey around the world. Visitors can enjoy the delicious and partly exotic snacks and main courses, matching the dream routes and themes, before, after or during their visit to the museum. The kitchen is open all day.
