An experience not only for car fans
The Oldtimerfreunde Meßkirch und Umgebung e.V. have built up an Oldtimer-Museum in the former remise of the Meßkirch Castle. Since 1999 their motorized treasures are presented in this museum. On two floors the museum accommodates about 20 automobiles from the pre and post-war period, about 80 motorcycles as well as further vehicles of the most different kind. On the ground floor cars from the period between 1925 and the 1970s are exhibited, while on the upper floor of the museum the focus is on motorcycles from the period between 1913 and the 1970s.
A special feature is the Schakomobil manufactured in 1957 by the Meßkircher company Ferdinand Schad (Schako company). The four-seater small car, made of plastic, was supposed to compete with the VW Beetle, but it remained unique. A very respectable collection of motorcycles of the brand Horex and various small cars from the golden 50s. From the legendary BMW racing team driver Ernst Kramer from Meßkirch his winning machine as well as numerous awards, certificates and medals can be seen.
Most of the exhibits, some of which are still ready to drive, come from private ownership and are occasionally driven by the members of the Oldtimerfreunde Meßkirch und Umgebung e.V. (Oldtimer Friends of Meßkirch and the Surroundings). Thus it comes again and again to changes in the exhibition.
