A highlight not far from Lake Constance
At 23 metres high and 150 metres wide, the Rhine Falls are one the largest and most water-rich waterfalls in Europe. Only a few kilometres from Lake Constance, the Rhine Falls are one of the great attractions in this region. It lies to the west of Untersee in Switzerland and attracts numerous travellers who have a fascinating view of the water masses between the rocks from several platforms. Another vantage point is the little castle of Wörth, which lies on an island in the Rhine. Don't miss the impressive natural phenomenon of the Rhine Falls when you are on holiday on Lake Constance or in the surrounding area.
Trips by boat
Shorter and longer boat trips are offered at the Rhine Falls as well as trips over to Schloss Laufen, which is located on the other side of the Rhine. On such a round trip or crossing you will experience the falling water masses at close quarters.
The premises of Schloss Laufen are partly occupied by a youth hostel. The historical building reminds of famous personalities and offers you impressive experiences, which are directly connected with the natural power of the water and the fantastic landscape scenery.
Boat trips take place from April to October, whereby a reservation is recommended for groups. The natural wonder of the Rhine Falls is presented within the framework of adventure trails that were laid out around Schloss Laufen.
Excursion boats go from Wörth and from the banks of the Rhine to close to the waterfall and drop you off on the middle rocky island if you want to get off there. From here you can climb steep stairs to a viewing platform that offers a breathtaking view of the thundering waterfall. The excursion ship, which is steered by an experienced captain, will take you back to the banks of the Rhine on the way back through the undulating and spraying water.
The Rhine and Lake Constance shape the history of the waterways. This is not only about the transport routes by ship, but also about fishing. You can obtain interesting information on shipping traffic and the significance of Switzerland's waters on a guided tour.
Guided tours of the Rhine Falls
To learn more about the waterfall, geology, history and fishing, it is worth taking a guided tour. On the one hand you will gain fascinating impressions of the huge masses of water that make the Rhine roar, on the other hand, you will hear interesting details about rock restoration, tourism in former times etc..
You can easily reach the Rhine Falls by car, public transport or bicycle. The access road from the A4 motorway in Switzerland is signposted. Parking is available in Neuhausen and at Schloss Laufen. If you arrive by the Hochrheinbahn, the Neuhausen Bad railway station is the right place to get off, within walking distance of the Rhine Falls. Furthermore, the SBB stations "Neuhausen Rheinfall" and "Schloss Laufen" offer a good connection.
