Fascination of aviation and space travel in the largest technology museum on Lake Constance
The dream of flying comes true - on a journey through 100 years of aerospace history! Huge flying boats, nostalgic passenger planes and exciting exhibits from space travel make a visit to the Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance a unique experience for the whole family. In the immediate vicinity of Lake Constance Airport, the museum presents a world of experience on more than 6,000 m². In addition to around 400 exhibits, numerous original aircraft and replicas such as the Dornier Wal and the Dornier Merkur bring the pioneering spirit of the past century to life.
On a guided tour through the museum, amusing anecdotes and interesting facts make the development of aviation and the pioneering achievements of the engineer Claude Dornier tangible. Countless world records, patents and technical achievements document the impressive history of the Dornier company. Political, economic and social framework conditions show what moved and motivated people in the respective epochs.
The large terrace of the DO-X restaurant offers a unique view of the Zeppelin hangar on the opposite side. Here, the take-off and landing of the Zeppelins and the scheduled traffic at Friedrichshafen Airport can be observed to your heart's content. Technology enthusiasts, people interested in history, families and friends of aviation are warmly welcome to the Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen!
World of experience with guided tours for children
A colourful children's and family programme runs through the entire holiday season: for holidaymakers' families and locals, the museum becomes a world of adventure with guided tours for children and handicrafts. Why not take pedal pilots to the race track? Or take a trip across Lake Constance in a flight simulator, in the cockpit of the legendary Dornier Do 27...? And when the children have had their fill of the airplanes: Slide onto the playground and out of an original Do 27 while your parents relax on the terrace of the museum restaurant DO-X. Every Thursday is Long Museum Evening until 8 p.m., with discounted admission from 5 p.m. and free public guided tour.
Children and teenagers experiment in the DO.lab
In the new "DO.labor" experimental workshop, children and young people explore the world of technology in workshops and numerous holiday offers.
The DO.labor is located in the Seemoos barracks, a 100-year-old wooden building rebuilt next to the Dornier Museum, where aircraft pioneer Claude Dornier developed his first aircraft.
In addition to the experimental workshop, where exciting activities take place every day during the school holidays, visitors can gain insights into the historic 1914 office of Claude Dornier in the entrance area.
The "Landshut" has landed in Friedrichshafen
Dornier Museum becomes the new home of Lufthansa aircraft
It is a symbol for a successful fight against terror and violence - not only in the Federal Republic of Germany. 40 years after the hijacking of the Lufthansa aircraft "Landshut" by Palestinian terrorists, a symbol of German history returns to Germany with this Boeing 737. Now the "Landshut" has landed in Friedrichshafen after an elaborate retrieval operation from the Brazilian Fortaleza and finds a new home in the Dornier Museum. From autumn 2019, the aircraft will be on display in a new exhibition at the Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen.
Further information on the project is available at www.die-landshut.de.
